R4L FAQ’s

1. How do I join RUN4LIFE?

In order to participate in R4L this year you will need to:
  • Be a member of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club, or another local organization that has a partnership with R4L
  • Submit the R4L Application with the other necessary documents to RUN4LIFE

  • 2. How much does the program cost?

The program is of no cost to members of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club and the partnering organizations. Once they have paid their membership, they are free to join R4L. Parents may need to purchase running shoes for their child. The only major cost of R4L is the participants’ and families’ fearless efforts & commitment to complete the program. Because R4L is a non-profit program we rely on the donations of the community, local businesses, and corporations. Although the program is of no cost, your donations are welcomed to support L.I.F.E. Programming

    3. What is the purpose of the RUN4LIFE assessments?

All testing information is confidential and strictly used to evaluate R4L programming, program delivery and effectiveness. The assessments will also be used to market and solicit advanced consultation and opinions from experts in the field.

    4. What are some of the therapeutic activities that I will be doing in R4L?

    Some of the activities include:
  • Creating a L.I.F.E. PLAN
  • Group sessions with other participants to discuss their lives & goals
  • Journaling after each session
  • Writing a personal monologue about your life also referred to as the L.I.F.E.time Address
  • Participating in family events once a month, entitled Saturday Night L.I.F.E.
  • Meeting with motivational speakers

  • 5. How can I volunteer with R4L?

Volunteers are a vital part of our L.I.F.E. Support Team. All volunteers must:
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Undergo a criminal background check
  • Once approved, attend a volunteer training meeting

  • 6. What if I have never run before?

If you have never run before, that is great! Our staff works to accommodate the physical needs of our participants, and want to provide safety. Although we cannot predict your or your child’s actions while participating in the program, our goal is to help them have an injury-free experience. R4L is dedicated to improving our participants’ overall health and increasing their self-confidence. R4L utilizes former Olympian and marathoner, Jeff Galloway’s Run Walk Techniques. Although the name of our program is RUN4LIFE, we use walking to help our participants to be successful.

    7. What is the difference between the RUN4LIFE CAMP & RUN4LIFE SEASON?

The R4L Camp is a five day summer camp offered in June at Jesse Davis Park in Douglasville, GA. The R4L Camp is one of the highlights for R4L. The R4L Season is where our youth meet weekly at the Douglas Co. Boys & Girls Club throughout the summer. Each week our youth participate in training and self-esteem building exercises in preparation for the US 10K on Labor Day.
